Celebrating Six Months of Marriage

February 13th, 2010 by Andrew

We started the new year with the rough month of January. Work was chaotic and we both got a stomach flu bug. But we got through it to be rewarded with an amazing February.
Our friends Phanango and Tony came to visit us for Phanango’s birthday. It was good timing too, since their Pittsburgh home lost power and heat that day from Snowmaggedon. It was great to see them and share our stories of being recently married.
Although we’re not big football fans, Sky and I make a point to watch the Superbowl together. We had a great time and munched on some soft pretzels and taquitos during the big game and big ads. Our favorite ads were the Google search and VW punch-bugs.
We also went for a short adventure in the snow, climbing snow mountains and discovering forts in the woods. Sky hates the cold but I love winter, so I’m glad we were able to enjoy it for a bit together. Then we got warmed up inside with some hot chocolate and pizza.
Now that Dollhouse is over, we’ve been watching lots of The Dick Van Dyke show and just started LOST as well.
My work’s been going very well this month; I’m glad to be done with the huge upgrade we were working on for months. Now I’m working on a secret design project that’s quite fun.
We don’t plan to celebrate Valentine’s Day tomorrow, since we both agree the holiday is bunk. But we are planning some sledding in the future and we’re hoping to invite some friends over for dinners in the second half of the month.

I think it’s very easy for life to get mundane, so I’m glad to see lots of little things in our marriage to realize how great it is. It’s important to be appreciative not only to your spouse but to God. It’s great to have two people care for you and look out for you. And here’s looking to a great 2010!

First 100 Days of Marriage

November 25th, 2009 by Andrew

Our first one hundred days have been great!  It’s been a mix of traveling, relaxing, and socializing.

We finished of the summer with a few trips to the White Turkey Drive-In, an impromptu trip to Presque Isle where we happened to see the Brig Niagara coming into port, and a road trip to a wedding in Pittsburgh.  It was fun and surreal to travel to a hotel and navigate the treacherous Pittsburgh hills.

It’s been a busy couple of months.  Our jobs are a bit stressful but going well.  We’ve also been working on our apartment too; We brought in a coffee table, took out a couch, rearranged a few things, and built a computer together to watch DVDs and Hulu.

Marriage might be a little tougher than we were expecting, but just as rewarding as we’d hoped.

The Honeymoon

Nittany LionAh, marriage. It’s a beautiful thing. After our wedding of awesomeness, Andrew and I had a couple days to ourselves so we could get used to living in the apartment together. It was strange for me, moving into an apartment that Andrew had already been living in for a year, because it felt a little bit like I was invading. It was probably more weird for him though, since he had been living the bachelor life and I suddenly was there, with all my stuff. We’re still getting used to the living together thing, actually.

But anyway, a couple days after the wedding we got to go on a road trip to State College to stay at a bed & breakfast. I had never been there before, but Andrew had, so he got to show me his favorite sites like the Creamery (huge delicious ice cream cones and happy fun time workers!) and the University Park campus. I loved our bed & breakfast; the owners were very nice and our room was great with a king-sized bed and a hot tub and a fireplace (even though we never got the fireplace to work!) We had a great time while we were down there, enjoying each other’s company and taking pictures every time we went to eat somewhere, like the State College Diner and the Waffle Shop. Mmm, the Waffle Shop has great orange juice, let me tell you. I highly recommend it.

The drive home was wonderful, we took the scenic route back since we weren’t in any hurry. It was way better than the way we came, which was I-80, and we had to sit at a dead stop on the highway for half an hour behind a semi because of construction. And it rained. But on the way back we drove through Cook’s Forest, and we saw Mount Nittany and it was just very lovely. It actually rained while we were at the bed & breakfast too, but it was a huge thunderstorm that we watched roll in from the garden in the backyard. Very cool. All in all, it was a wonderful start to our marriage and I look forward to more road trips and getaways with Andrew throughout the rest of our life together.

Wedding of Awesomeness a Huge Success!

Our Wedding Party stands behind usWe’re married! The wedding was a blast and it was only just the beginning! We’d like to thank everyone who joined us for the wedding and especially for everyone who helped out beforehand. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Married life is spectacular and surprising! It may be tough when you have to fight to reclaim stolen sheets during the night, but it’s worth it in the morning when you get to share breakfast with someone. Plus we can fall asleep watching movies and not have to drive the other home.

Our apartment looks a lot more grown up now that we’ve got some nice presents to fill it.  Thanks to everyone who chipped in to get us started.

We’ve posted some photos of the wedding, but stay tuned because there are lots more coming!

[UPDATE] The photos just keep on coming.  For our entire photo gallery, visit the Wedding of Awesomeness Photo Album on Facebook!  (Anyone can view them, even without a Facebook account.)

Due to our nice-and-short engagement, Sky and I didn’t have time to send out Save The Date cards.  So we made a Save The Date video instead!  Enjoy.
